Description
15-17 Kinellan Road is an early 19th-century classical villa that has been altered in the later 19th century. It is a two-storey building with a basement and has a three-bay rectangular plan. The ground floor is constructed of coursed, polished sandstone ashlar, while the first floor features lighter sandstone. At the front, there is a raised terrace with central steps and four advanced pillars, which have key-patterned incised panels. A string course runs between the ground and first floors, forming a cornice at the rear, and the deep eaves are adorned with a dentilled cornice. The windows have margins, and the ground floor of the front elevation features consoled cornices.
On the southeast (entrance) elevation, the door is offset to the left of center at ground level, with a tall window on the right side. There are tall windows in the flanking bays and lattice wrought iron work bordering each bay at ground level. Each bay on the first floor has a bipartite window.
The southwest elevation has a corniced canted bay to the right at ground level, with deep-set windows between pilastered jambs and a blocked window above. There is a central glazed porch and entrance door at ground level, with a door to the basement below it and a large rectangular window with stone astragals above. A single window is present in the left bay at the first floor.
The northwest (rear) elevation features a central two-bay projection, with the ground floor forming a covered passage to a door. The fenestration pattern is regular, with bipartite lights at the first floor and single lights at the second floor, all having grooved frames. The ends are recessed, with two single windows at ground level and a single bipartite window above.
The southeast elevation has three storeys and two bays, with a two-storey corniced canted bay on the left, featuring deep-set windows in pilastered jambs. Above, there is a bipartite window (with the left light blocked), a single window to the basement at the center, and a pair of closely spaced windows on the two floors above. An altered window is present to the right at the basement, with bipartite windows on both floors above.
The villa predominantly features timber sash and case glazing, with four-pane casement windows in the canted bay on the southeast. The roof is covered with grey slate and has a pair of corniced ridge stacks with modern terracotta cans, along with cast-iron rainwater goods.
