Description

Redcroft, located at 23 Murrayfield Road in Edinburgh, is an asymmetrical Arts and Crafts house designed by Ernest Auldjo Jamieson in 1911. The building features a three-bay, two-storey main block on the south side and a single-storey, two-bay block on the north side. It is constructed from squared and snecked sandstone and has an eaves cornice with a swept, piended roof.

On the northeast elevation facing Murrayfield Road, the two-storey main block is on the left, featuring an arched porch with glazing strips in the second bay from the left, leading to a garden door with steps. To the right, there is a bipartite window on the ground floor and a keystoned segmental-arched mullioned and transomed window at the center for the stair. The lower block on the right has two boat dormers that break the eaves to the attic.

The west elevation, which faces the garden, shows a three-bay main block on the right with a projecting bay in the center that includes a French window, with a tripartite window above it. The flanking bays have two-storey bowed windows with swept, piended roofs. The lower block on the left again features two boat dormers that break the eaves to the attic.

On the south elevation, there is a single-storey bowed window located off-center to the right, which provides light to the hall.

The windows throughout the house are small-pane glazing in timber sash and case style. The roof is covered with red tiles, and there are tall panelled and corniced stacks.

The boundary wall surrounding the property is made of rubble with semicircular coping.
