Description

36-38 Upper Gray Street is an earlier 19th century, two-storey, symmetrical three-bay classical house made of cream sandstone ashlar. It features a cornice and a blocking course. The first-floor windows have decorative cast-iron guards, while the ground-floor windows are adorned with architraves.

The entrance elevation has a central doorway with a panelled door and a geometric small-paned fanlight, framed by a pilastered and corniced doorpiece. Above the doorway, there is a single window on the first floor, with additional windows in the outer left and right bays. There are steps leading up to a recessed wing (No 36) on the north side, which has its own panelled door and a small-pane border-glazed fanlight, along with two small lying-pane windows above.

The house features 12-pane timber sash and case windows and has a grey slate pitched roof with corniced and coped wallhead stacks, as well as moulded octagonal cans.

The interiors were not seen in 1995. There is a low saddle back boundary wall along the street.
