10-14 Lauriston Place, Edinburgh

10-14 Lauriston Place is a classical terraced tenement built around 1814. This four-storey, five-bay building is set back behind a small garden and constructed from cream sandstone ashlar, with a channelled ground floor and lightly droved upper sections. The rear is built from rubble. Architectural features include a base course, a dividing band between the ground and first floors, cill courses on the first and second floors, projecting cills on the third floor, and mutuled eaves.

The entrance features a timber panelled door leading to the flats, with a sunburst fanlight above, flanked by wider doors that have batwing fanlights in round-arched surrounds. The building has a regular arrangement of windows, with ground floor windows set in round-headed recesses, and first-floor windows framed by corniced architraved surrounds. Decorative cast-iron balconies are present on the first and third windows from the left on the first floor. The windows are timber sash and case with 12-pane glazing.

The roof is covered with grey slates, and there are rendered stacks with circular cans at the ridge. The property is enclosed by a low coped ashlar boundary wall topped with spear-headed cast-iron railings, which feature spear-headed finials on the gate and pine cone finials on the gateposts.
