Inch House, Gilmerton Road, Edinburgh

Inch House, located on Gilmerton Road in Edinburgh, is a significant building dating from 1617. It features a stepped L-plan design, consisting of a three-storey and attic southeast block, which includes a crenellated re-entrant stair tower that rises five storeys. The exterior is harled with crow-stepped gables and stone dormers, while the ground floor is vaulted. The northeast wing is two-storey and has sculptured dormer heads added in 1634, along with some 18th and early 19th century additions. A large southwest addition was made by MacGibbon and Ross between 1891 and 1892, which involved the remodelling and rebuilding of the Georgian wing. This addition is also two-storey and attic, featuring an angle turret, stone dormers, and an elaborate porch with pilasters and a pediment, showcasing faceted rustication, along with a bay window above on the first floor.
