Description

27, 28, and 29 High Street in South Queensferry is a mid-18th century building with 19th century alterations. It is two stories high with an attic and serves as a shop (currently empty) and a tenement. The first floor features painted square and snecked rubble with quoining, a base course, a cornice, and an eaves band course. The ground floor has chamfered moulded architraves, while the first floor displays raised and painted margins.

On the south elevation, the central doorway of No. 29 is framed by an emphatic Gibbsian surround, with a single window above on the first floor. To the right, there are two dummy doors and a shop window, and to the left, a door flanked by shop windows. The first floor has a regular five-bay arrangement of windows. There is a dormer window to the left, an attic window slightly left of center, and a canted dormer window to the right.

The west elevation features a blank gable where an adjoining building has been demolished. The north elevation includes a later extension with two piended roofs and four bays, maintaining regular fenestration. The east elevation is adjacent to another building.

The ground floor has modern glazing, while the first floor features single-pane sash and case windows and two-pane sash and case windows in the dormers. The roof is grey slated with straight stone skews to the south, large scroll skewputts to the front, and a crowstepped skew to the north. There is a short harled stack to the left, a tall rubble stack with a cornice to the right, and a tall harled stack at the rear.

The interior was not seen in 2000.
