Description

Gortonlee is a single-storey and attic L-plan villa built in 1933 by Kininmonth and Spence, featuring Art-Deco detailing. The villa has Dutch gables, a bell-cast roof, deep eaves, and slate-hung, flat-roofed dormers. It is finished in grey painted render with grey tile cills and has a basecourse on the south side. The windows on the south and west elevations have outside shutters.

On the north (entrance) elevation, there are five bays. The center features an advanced two-storey bay with a keel-shaped gable that contains an unusual timber door set in an elliptical arched doorway with curved jambs, which have horizontal stripe mouldings. Above the door is a single window, with two windows flanking the door on the right and one window on the left. To the outer left is a recessed bay with a single window. The advanced service wing extends to the east, featuring a timber boarded door on the north elevation and five narrow windows on the left return.

The south (garden) elevation has six bays. An advanced gabled bay on the outer left includes a tripartite window at ground level and a slit window at the gable apex. To the right of the gable is a slightly advanced flat-roofed single-storey bay with a fully glazed door in the center and flanking windows, plus a window on the right return and two dormers above. There is a bipartite window and a tripartite window in the right and outer right bays, respectively, with the roof-line to the right of center slightly lower.

The west elevation features a gable end with curved brackets on each side at ground level, a single window on the right, and an advanced chimney stack on the left.

The east elevation, which is part of the service wing, has a wall-head stack on the right and flanking dormers, with regular fenestration in the other bays. The villa features lying-pane glazing in timber casements, tiered coped stacks, and a graded grey slate roof.
