Description
Akranes is a villa built around 1867, with later alterations and additions. It is a two-storey, three-bay square-plan building with a piended roof, featuring an advanced central bay and a prominent five-light central bay window. At the northeast angle, there is a single-storey T-plan addition projecting from the rear. The exterior is cement-rendered with cement dressings, and the central bay has ashlar dressing. The openings have plain margins, and the bay window has chamfered reveals.
On the west (principal) elevation, there is a square bay with a tripartite window and a narrow window on each return at the ground level in the bay at the centre, with a window above on the first floor. Each flanking bay has a window on both floors.
The east (entrance) elevation is irregular with five bays. It features a tall stair window with a small oculus below in the central bay. There is a window on each floor in the bay to the left, and a timber-panelled door with a lying-pane fanlight in a recessed bay to the left. A window flanks this door, and there is another window set between them on the first floor above. A single-storey projection extends from the outer right bay.
The north (side) elevation consists of a two-bay main block with a two-bay addition to the left. The main block has a window on each floor in the right bay and a window at ground level in the left bay. The addition to the left features wide tripartite windows in each bay.
On the south (side) elevation, there is a window on each floor in the left bay, and a timber-panelled door with a lying-pane fanlight at ground level in a recessed bay to the right.
The villa has 12- and 6-pane timber sash and case windows. The main block has a grey slate piended roof, while the additions also have grey slate roofs with stone ridges. There are twin harled, corniced ridge stacks, and predominantly uPVC rainwater goods. The interior was not fully seen during the last inspection in 1998.
