Description
7 Young Street in Edinburgh is an A-listed building, originally constructed by John Young shortly after 1779. This classical former house features two storeys, a half-sunk basement, and an attic, with a three-bay façade made of droved cream sandstone ashlar and polished dressings. The right bay has an architraved corniced doorpiece that leads to a deeply set door and fanlight, while there are two bowed dormers hung with slate.
The rear elevation is three storeys high with two bays, and it includes an attached two-storey, two-bay rubble range that houses garages at ground level, complete with a droved relieving arch.
The building has timber sash and case windows with 12 panes. There is a reduced stone stack on the west side and a rebuilt stack on the east side, with cement-coped skews and grey slate roofing.
The interior was not seen in 1995.
