Description
14 Young Street in Edinburgh is a classical former house built by John Young soon after 1779. The building features two storeys, a half-sunk basement, and an attic, with a three-bay façade made of droved cream sandstone ashlar and polished dressings. It has an eaves cornice and a central bay that includes an architraved corniced doorpiece leading to a deeply set door, topped with a three-pane fanlight and a wrought-iron lamp bracket. The right bay is distinguished by tripartite windows, and there is a later addition of a full-width slate-hung dormer.
The rear elevation is three storeys high and constructed of rubble, also with three bays. The windows are timber sash and case with 12 panes. The building features ashlar coped skews, stone stacks, and grey slate roofing.
The interior was not seen in 1995.
