Description
17 Young Street in Edinburgh is a classical former house built by John Young shortly after 1779. It features two storeys, a half-sunk basement, and an attic, with a three-bay façade constructed from droved cream sandstone ashlar and polished dressings. The building has an eaves cornice and steps leading up to a deeply set door with a four-pane fanlight at the center. The left bay is adorned with tripartite windows, and there is a later addition of a full-width corniced slate-hung dormer.
The rear elevation is irregular, consisting of three storeys and three bays, built from rubble, and it connects to a two-storey rendered range that includes garages on the ground floor and a top-lit studio on the first floor, located at No 22 Young Street Lane North. The windows are timber sash and case with twelve panes. The building features ashlar coped skews, rendered stacks, and grey slate roofing.
The interior was not seen in 1995.
