Description

36 South Oswald Road is a single storey and attic lodge designed by Robert Morham in 1885. The building features coursed cream sandstone with droved dressings and red sandstone banding. It has a base course, a cornice above the ground floor, red sandstone band courses above the cornice and over the attic lintels, overhanging timber eaves, decorative pierced timber bargeboards, and chamfered reveals.

The south elevation has two bays, with a shouldered-arched open porch in the re-entrant angle to the outer right, leading to a panelled door. To the outer left, there is a single storey canopied canted window in an advanced bay, and a single window with a cornice above in the gablehead. The west elevation also has two bays, featuring an advanced gabled bay to the outer left with a window at ground level and a cornice above the window in the gablehead. The bay to the outer right has a window at ground level. The east elevation mirrors this with two bays, showcasing an advanced gabled first bay, windows at ground level and in the gablehead, as well as two windows at ground level and one in the gablehead. The north rear elevation is blank.

The windows are casement style with small pane glazing and small pane toplights on the south and west elevations. The roof is gabled and covered with grey slate, featuring a corniced and shouldered ridge stack with chamfered angles, decorative terracotta ridging and finials, and moulded eaves guttering. Inside, there are plain cornices and panelled shutters.

The property is enclosed by low boundary walls with modern fencing along the streets, and there is a modern flat-roofed garage to the north.
