Description

Circa 1870. 2-storey 3-bay villa with adjoining single storey service wing and conservatory. Squared and snecked sandstone with polished ashlar dressings; coursed ashlar to S elevation. Base course; cornice; roll-moulded window surrounds; channelled quoins.

S ENTRANCE elevation: central raised doorpiece with carved consoles and cornice; architraved and keystoned segmental-arched doorway; deep-set panelled door; plate glass fanlight. Single window at 1st floor above; bracketted cill. Full-height canted windows in bays to outer left and right; dividing cornices. Recessed service wing adjoining to outer right. E ELEVATION: service wing advanced at ground floor and extented to outer right. Round-arched stairwindow at 1st floor.

W ELEVATION: conservatory (1895) to outer right; flat-roofed harled log shed (1955) adjoining to centre. Single window at 1st floor to outer right.

N REAR ELEVATION: single windows in bays to centre and outer left. Single window at ground to outer right; bipartite at 1st floor. Single storey extension to service wing adjoining to outer left; 2 doorways. Plate glass sash and case windows (6-pane to rear.) Grey slate piended roof; segmental-headed dormers, 2 to S and 2 to N; shouldered and corniced wallhead stack to W; coped wallhead stack to E with rendered chimney breast; moulded cans; moulded eaves guttering.

INTERIOR: decorative plasterwork; original marble fireplaces; ornate cast-iron stair balustrade.

BOUNDARY WALLS GATE AND RAILINGS: low saddleback wall to street and mutual wall with No 4 Oswald Road (see separate listing), both surmounted by decorative cast-iron railings with fleur-de-lys heads; pedestrian gate in similar style; high coped rubble mutual walls to rear and sides of property.
