Description

125 Grange Loan is a villa built around 1868, featuring two storeys and an irregular plan, with single-storey service wings attached to the east and west. The building is constructed from squared and snecked sandstone, enhanced with polished dressings. It has a base course, a dividing band course, a dentilled eaves cornice, segmental-arched windows on the ground floor, and pointed arches for the first-floor windows, all with chamfered reveals.

The north entrance elevation has three bays, with service wings on the outer left and right. The centre bay is advanced and steeply gabled, featuring colonnettes and a roll-moulded hood over a segmental-arched doorway, which has a panelled door and a plate glass fanlight. Above the doorway is a bracketed cornice with a carved decorative panel. The first floor has a window, and the gablehead is adorned with a floral patera and iron finials. The outer bays have bipartite windows on the ground floor and single windows above. There is a sympathetic addition from 1991 in the form of a service wing recessed to the outer left, while the original single-storey service wing and a later carriage house are recessed to the outer right, featuring a single window at ground level and a window above that breaks the eaves in a pedimented dormerhead, with a piend roof on the carriage house.

The east elevation facing Kilgraston Road has four bays, with a service wing at ground level. The third bay features a margin-paned window in the gable at the first floor, along with an iron finial, while the other bays have blinded single windows at the first floor.

The west elevation has a service wing at ground level on the outer left, with windows at ground level and in the gablehead, and a piend-roofed carriage house on the outer right. There is a single window breaking the eaves at the first floor behind. The villa features plate glass sash and case windows, a grey slate piended roof with fishscale banding, shouldered and corniced wallhead stacks, moulded octagonal cans, and gabletted skewputts.

The property is enclosed by low coped boundary walls to Grange Loan and high coped boundary walls to Kilgraston, as well as high coped mutual walls. The entrance has a corniced and capped ashlar gatepier.
