Description

24 Mortonhall Road is a two-bay villa, possibly designed by Frank Simon around 1890, that has been subdivided. The building is constructed from squared and snecked pink bull-faced sandstone, accented with contrasting cream ashlar dressings. It features overhanging eaves, a cill course at the first floor, and long and short surrounds to the windows.

On the south elevation facing Mortonhall Road, the villa has a two-storey, five-light canted window in the bay to the left, with a parapet that forms a balcony above a gabled and bargeboard tripartite attic window. The bay to the right contains single windows on both floors.

The east entrance elevation includes a roll-moulded doorway with a hoodmould in the bay to the right, featuring a panelled door and a plate glass fanlight above. There is a bipartite window at the first floor above this doorway. The bay to the left has an irregular distribution of windows and a corbelled chimneybreast. A single-storey link bay connects the house to a flat-roofed addition on the outer right. The windows are sash and case style, with a small-pane glazing pattern on the upper sashes and plate glass in the lower sashes. The roof is covered with grey-green slate and features terracotta ridging, along with some original rainwater goods, including hoppers and decorative fixings.

The boundary walls consist of low coped walls along the street and higher mutual walls.
