Description

25 Oswald Crescent is a villa built in 1896 by JR & EE Pearson. This two-storey and attic, three-bay rectangular-plan villa features a service wing at the rear. It is constructed from coursed bull-faced cream sandstone with polished ashlar dressings. The design includes a base course, a bracketed eaves cornice, architraved windows, long and short quoins, round-headed windows, and dentilled pediments on the dormers.

On the west entrance elevation, there are steps leading up to a tripartite doorpiece located in the center bay. The door has a segmental-headed and architraved opening, a panelled door, and decorative stained glass panels in the door, fanlight, and side lights. Above the door is a bracketed cornice with a balustrade. The first floor has a single window, and there is a dormer in the attic. The outer right bay features a full-height canted window with a lead canopy and a wrought-iron window guard on the dormer. The outer left bay has a full-height advanced bipartite window, also with a lead canopy and wrought-iron window guard on the dormer.

The south garden elevation has two bays, with a full-height canted window in the outer right bay and a canopy with a wrought-iron window guard on the dormer. There are single windows in the remaining bay and a bipartite dormer.

The north elevation has two bays, featuring bipartite windows on both floors in the outer left bay, with a bipartite dormer above. The remaining bay has single windows.

The east rear elevation is mostly obscured by an adjoining lower two-storey service wing and garages. It includes a three-light canted dormer and plate glass sash and case windows. The roof is a grey slate mansard with two shouldered and cornice wallhead stacks, along with two corniced wallhead stacks and moulded octagonal cans.

The gatepiers and boundary walls include pyramidal caps on the gatepiers facing South Oswald Road, with coped squared and snecked rubble sandstone walls. There is a pedestrian gateway through a slapping to South Oswald Road.
