Description

6, 7, 8 Portland Place in Leith, Edinburgh, is a classical tenement building dating from around 1821. It features four storeys above a raised basement and has a four-bay façade. The basement has been extended to accommodate a modern café and a flat above, continuing the raised terrace. The exterior is finished in cleaned cream sandstone droved ashlar with polished dressings. It includes a base course, a rusticated ground floor with a band course above, a cill course at the third floor, and a cornice. The windows are regularly spaced throughout the building.

On the principal floor, there is a door located beyond the outer right bay, which is topped by a rectangular plate glass fanlight. The rear elevation is constructed of rubble.

The building features 12-pane timber sash and case windows, grey slate roofing, coped ashlar stacks, and ashlar coped skews. Additionally, there are cast-iron spearhead railings along the raised street.
