Description
3 Portland Street in Leith, Edinburgh, is an earlier 19th-century tenement building that stands four storeys high with an attic above a raised basement. It features a five-bay facade constructed of stugged cream sandstone ashlar, accented with polished ashlar dressings, a cornice, and a blocking course. The building has a regular arrangement of windows and a rusticated basement with a base course. At the center, there is a panelled door topped by a letterbox fanlight, flanked by a 20th-century porch supported by a pair of concrete columns. Above this porch, there is a balcony that was formerly a door, framed by a pilastered and corniced doorpiece. The building also has tile-hung box-dormers.
The rear elevation is rendered, and the windows are 12-pane timber sash and case. The roof is covered with grey slates, and there are rendered stacks.
In front, there is a rubble wall with concrete coping and modern iron railings that retain a raised area.
