Description
13 East Brighton Crescent is a classical house built around 1824 by John Baxter of Portobello. It is a two-storey building with a basement and features three bays, situated within a short terrace. The front is made of polished ashlar stone, which is deeply channelled at the ground level, while the basement is finished in droved ashlar and the rear is constructed from rubble. There are band courses between the basement and ground floor, as well as between the ground and first floor. The first floor has a cill course, and the building is topped with a cornice and a blocking course.
The principal elevation is symmetrical, featuring five ashlar steps (with concrete repairs) leading to a deep-set panelled door located in the right bay. Above the door is a plate glass rectangular fanlight, and there is a window at the first floor. Each of the remaining bays has windows on both floors, and there is a window in the basement of the left bay.
The rear elevation has not been fully seen since 1994. It is slightly advanced from the rear of No 14 and has a blank bay at both the ground and first floors, with a door and plate glass rectangular fanlight located in the left bay.
The principal elevation includes plate glass timber sash and case windows, except for a 12-pane timber sash and case window in the basement and 4-pane timber sash and case windows at the rear. The roof is covered with grey slate, and there are rendered and coped mutual stacks.
The boundary walls at the front are made of droved stone and are coped, and they were formerly topped with railings.
