48 Timber Bush, Edinburgh

48 Timber Bush is an early 19th-century, two-storey workshop or warehouse that forms part of a courtyard enclosed by the neighbouring tenement buildings at Nos 32-36 Bernard Street, which are listed separately. The structure is made of cream sandstone, featuring coursed and squared rubble with stugged dressings on the front and southwest elevation, while the northeast side is constructed from rubble.

The southeast elevation has a gabled design with three bays, featuring a central door flanked by single windows that were added in 1902. There is a crude canopied ashlar panel at the gablehead and a stone, depressed carriage arch that connects the tenement to the setted courtyard on the left.

The northeast elevation has irregular openings, some of which have been altered, and an off-centre doorway to the left. The southwest elevation features a broad depressed-arched opening to the right, along with irregular openings that have been significantly altered.

The building has plate glass timber sash and case windows, as well as modern multi-pane timber casements. The roof is covered with slate and has a red crested tile ridge, along with Velux rooflights.
