163, 165, 167 Rose Street, Edinburgh

This building, located at 163, 165, and 167 Rose Street in Edinburgh, dates from around 1780 and is an irregular three-storey and attic five-bay tenement with commercial premises on the ground floor, situated on a corner site. The exterior features coursed rubble with droved ashlar and band courses at the ground level. The ground floor includes a five-bay restaurant with a consoled cornice, a door to a common stair on the right, original band courses, and long and short quoins. There are four dormers, one of which is canted, and a gabled return with bipartite windows on the left side. The rear elevation rises to four storeys.

The building has 12-pane timber sash and case windows, with plate glass and replacements on the second floor. The roof features ashlar coped skews, a rebuilt brick stack to the west, and is covered with grey slates. The interior was not seen in 1995.
