Lodge, Hermitage Of Braid, 69B Braid Road, Edinburgh

The Lodge at the Hermitage of Braid, located at 69B Braid Road in Edinburgh, was originally a tollhouse built around 1860 and was rebuilt as a lodge in 1888. It is a single-storey, three-bay T-plan structure with a rear projection. The exterior features cream sandstone, with stugged and droved ashlar on the front and sides, and coursed and squared rubble at the rear. It has a base course, chamfered reveals on the canted window, and gabled ashlar skews with bracketted skewputs.

On the west (front) elevation, there is a projecting gabled central bay with chamfered corners that sweep to square, featuring a canted window arranged in a 1-2-1 pattern and a half-pitched stone slate roof. The gablehead has a projecting shaft that rises to a coped finial, and there is a blocked doorway on the return to the left. The bay to the right includes a modern glazed lean-to entrance porch in the re-entrant angle, while the bay to the left has a single window. The north and south elevations are gabled, each with a single window and a stone finial. The east elevation features a central lower single-storey gabled projection with a secondary door on the return.

The windows are 8-pane timber sash and case, and the roof is slate with lead flashings and a coped central stack. The interior was not seen in 1992.
