Description
The gatepiers at Greenbank Crescent in Braidburn Valley, Edinburgh, date from around 1815 but were relocated to their current position in 1937. They are a pair of rusticated sandstone ashlar gatepiers topped with cornices and decorative urn finials. The gatepiers feature scroll-topped buttresses at the rear and secondary piers that create pedestrian entrances on the sides. They have base course plinths and a fine string course beneath the projecting cornice. The urns are adorned with acanthus leaf and oval detailing. The 1937 alterations include squared, snecked sandstone quadrant curved wing walls. The wrought iron gates, which are initialled GR, are also believed to date from 1937.
