Description
This building, located at 3-5 Old Fishmarket Close and 190 High Street in Edinburgh, dates back to the early 19th century. It is a traditional residential tenement with a shallow plan, featuring four storeys and a basement, and has six bays. The structure is set on steeply sloping ground, with a raised iron-railed forestair and a platt at the ground floor on the right side. The exterior is made of coursed, squared rubble with ashlar dressings and bands between the floors. There is a small wallhead stack with a clay can located at the centre left of the building.
The fenestration is regular, with commercial premises occupying the ground floor, which is finished in painted ashlar and features hood-moulded openings. The sixth bay has blind openings. The windows are 12-pane timber sash and case, and the roof is covered with Scottish slate. The building also has coped end stacks and cast-iron rainwater goods.
