Description
7 Old Fishmarket Close is an early 19th-century traditional residential tenement located at 190 High Street, Edinburgh. This building has a shallow plan and consists of four storeys plus a basement, featuring a seven-bay façade. It is situated on sloping ground and has a raised horizontal platform at the ground floor, enclosed by iron railings. The exterior is made of coursed, squared rubble with ashlar dressings and raised cills.
The principal (west) elevation displays a regular arrangement of windows, with a band course at the third floor that serves as window lintels, and a blocking course above. The centre of the elevation features a shallow nepus gable, which likely originally housed a wallhead stack. At the ground floor, there are two later glazed doors leading to commercial premises, while the third bay above is blind on the upper floors. The rear (east) elevation has irregular fenestration and includes a central bow.
The building is fitted with 12-pane timber sash and case windows, a Scottish slate roof, squat coped end stacks, and cast-iron rainwater goods.
