Description
23 Bath Street is an early 19th century classical house that has undergone later alterations. It is a single storey building over a raised basement, featuring a rectangular plan with three bays. The ground floor is finished in painted droved ashlar, while the basement has painted lined smooth render, and the side and rear elevations are rendered. There is a band course between the basement and ground floors, a mutuled cornice, and a blocking course, with architraved windows.
On the northwest (principal) elevation, the central bay is slightly advanced, featuring a segmental-arched doorpiece with a deep-set door, flanked by blind sidelights and topped by a shallow segmental fanlight. The basement floor openings have been altered to create a separate dwelling. The front steps and low coped boundary wall were reconstructed during the conversion in the 1990s.
The southeast (rear) elevation includes later French doors at the center and a slate-hung box dormer.
Inside, some original decorative plasterwork on the ceilings and cornices remains intact in the principal ground floor rooms.
