Description

15 Jordan Lane is an early 19th century single storey and basement cottage located on sloping ground in Morningside, Edinburgh. The building features a large projecting glazed entrance porch, constructed from cream sandstone with a stugged ashlar front and squared, snecked rubble with droved dressings at the rear.

The north (front) elevation showcases a prominent gabled glazed entrance porch resting on a rubble base, connecting the street to the central bay at ground floor. Above the panelled entrance door, which has narrow sidelights, is a stylised ball cornice. The outer bays have single windows at both the basement and ground floor levels, while there is a small full-height brick addition to the outer left.

On the south (rear) elevation, the cottage is two storeys high, featuring a small gabled closed timber porch that is off-centre to the central bay, with a single window above it on the first floor. The outer bays also have single windows, although the left bay has undergone modern alterations.

The cottage is fitted with timber sash and case windows that have 12-pane glazing. It has a slate roof with lead flashings and shared rendered apex stacks with the adjacent properties at Nos 14 and 16.

Inside, there is a stone staircase leading to the basement, which is adorned with plain cast-iron balusters and a timber handrail. The front of the property is bordered by a low wall with saddleback coping and remnants of original railings. The rear and side are enclosed by tall brick walls, which include remains of a planned garden layout, steps, and pedestals.
