Description

27-29 Regent Street is a late 19th-century, two-storey terrace of houses with an attic storey, featuring a symmetrical six-bay design. The ground floor is finished in polished channelled ashlar, while the first floor is in polished ashlar, with squared and snecked side elevations. The building has a base course, a band course between the floors, and a moulded detail at the canted windows. There is a string course at three-quarters height of the first-floor windows, which is stepped over the windows, along with a cornice and blocking course. The first-floor windows have half-height stop-chamfered arrises, and all openings feature basket-arched lintels with slightly raised hoods over the canted windows, adorned with decorative key-stones.

On the principal (west) elevation, there are consoled and corniced doorpieces at the centre, each with panelled doors and a basket-arched plate glass fanlight above. The penultimate bays also have panelled doors with plate glass fanlights, while the first-floor windows are positioned above. The ground floor has windows in the intermediate bays with tripartite windows between these and the centre bays on the first floor. The outer bays feature full-height canted windows. A carved name stone is located at the extreme right of the band course.

The east (rear) elevation is not visible as of 1994, but it likely has a single-storey extension at the centre. The building has plate glass timber sash and case windows and a piended slate roof with slate-hung piended dormers (canted to the outer bays) over the central four bays. Ashlar coped wallhead stacks are present on the side elevations, along with ashlar coped mutual stacks. Cast-iron downpipes are also included, with string and band courses clasping the structure.

The interiors were not seen in 1994. The boundary walls and gatepier are stugged with coping, now harled at No 31, while spear-headed railings remain at Nos 27 and 29. There is a tall square-section ashlar gatepier at No 27 topped with a pyramidal coping finial.
