Description

Rose Cottage, located at 27 Main Street in Davidson's Mains, Edinburgh, dates from around 1825 to 1830. This simple late Georgian cottage has a distinctive shape, positioned at an angle to the street. It is a single-storey building with a dormerless attic and a high, slated roof featuring straight skewed gables and end stacks. The front has a two-window layout with a central door, constructed from coursed rubble with pinnings and droved dressings, and flush margins. Plain pilasters are integrated with an eaves band course that frames a four-panelled door topped by a rectilinear fanlight.

The gables are made of split boulder rubble with ashlar stacks, each featuring a single off-centre attic window with original glazing. There is a right-hand door, which is now blocked, with steps at the west gable. At the back, there is a short piended wing, and the ground floor has been reglazed. A later front garden wall made of concrete includes piers with fluted friezes.
