Description

This building at 2 Adelaide Street in Helensburgh is an Italianate villa dating from around 1860. It is two stories high and has three main bays, with a lower single bay, two-story wing to the west, and a single-story wing to the east. The exterior is rendered and lined to resemble ashlar stone, painted, and features a base course, raised margins, quoin strips, and bracketed eaves.

On the north elevation, the entrance is centrally located and includes a doorpiece with a consoled, swept canopy porch and two-leaf doors, which have had their panels removed and replaced with glazing. There is a half-glazed modern vestibule door. Flanking the entrance are windows at the ground level, and there are three symmetrically arranged windows on the first floor. The lower two-story wing to the right (west) has a window on both the ground and first floors, while the single-story wing to the left has a blinded window.

The west side elevation features two irregularly placed windows at the ground level. The south rear elevation has three bays with regular window placement, including a canted window on the outer right at the ground level.

The north elevation has twelve-pane sash and case windows, while the south elevation has been fitted with aluminium replacement windows. The roof is a shallow piended design covered in grey slate, with deep overhanging bracketed eaves and corniced end stacks topped with polygonal cans. The property also includes gatepiers and railings, which are made of corniced ashlar with stop-chamfered arrises, complemented by decorative arrowhead railings.
