17-19 Murray Street, Montrose

17-19 Murray Street is a late 18th to early 19th century two-storey, three-bay tenement that forms part of an irregular terrace, featuring a shop on the ground floor. The front is finished with painted and lined render, and there is a fascia and cornice with brackets above the ground floor.

The west elevation, which is the principal front, has a four-bay shop front on the left, originally with a door in the bay to the right of the centre. It includes plate glass windows and a base course. To the right, there is a doorway with two-leafed outer doors. The pend entrance at the extreme right has an architraved frame and six-panel doors. The first floor has three bays, but the centre window is blocked.

The north elevation adjoins 9-13 Murray Street, while the south elevation adjoins 21-25 Murray Street. The east elevation features a single-storey addition built on rising ground at the rear, with the first floor above the pend entrance clad in timber weatherboard.

At the first floor, there are four-pane timber sash and case windows. The front pitch of the roof is covered with grey slate, while the rear and the addition have corrugated iron roofing. There are brick gablehead stacks on the north and south sides.
