Description

The burial ground at St Fergus's Church in Glamis dates from the 18th century and later. It features semicircular-coped squared and snecked rubble walls that enclose both the church and the graveyard. At the northwest and southwest corners, near the Session House, there are carved stones depicting skull and crossbones set into the wall.

The north gatepiers and gates consist of channelled and rusticated ashlar square-section gatepiers topped with a deep cornice and carved orb finials on swept plinths. The decorative wrought-iron gates include an overthrow archway adorned with a Star-of-David surmounted by a cross.

The east gatepiers and gate mirror the design of the north gate, featuring similar gatepiers and a decorative wrought-iron gate for pedestrian access.

Within the burial ground, there are some notable gravestones, including finely moulded apex style stones that display various carvings of death emblems and family crests, although many inscriptions are badly eroded. Additionally, there are table stones featuring classical and gothic details.
