Description
The gate piers and gates at the Old Parish Church in Mordington date back to 1757. They are located near a rectangular graveyard that fronts the road and features a curved corner to the southeast. The church itself was originally situated within this area but was demolished in 1867.
The graveyard is enclosed by rubble-coped, rubble walls on the north, south, and west sides, with a missing wall to the east. The western wall is partly mutual with the adjoining property, which was formerly a manse. The graveyard contains predominantly 18th and 19th century gravestones, including table-top monuments, a single obelisk, classically detailed stones, and a circular-plan column on a tapering shaft.
The gate piers are square in plan, capped with pyramidal tops, and made of pink sandstone, flanking the entrance to the south. There is a single wrought iron gate. The style of the structure features weathered, stepped cream sandstone that adjoins the outer elevation of the curved corner to the southeast.
