Description

Mordington House Lodge is a gate lodge built in the earlier to mid 19th century, with later additions and alterations. It is a single-storey, three-bay structure designed in a near T-plan, featuring a piend roof and a projecting porch at the front, along with a flat-roofed addition at the rear. The lodge is constructed from rubble sandstone and whinstone, with droved cream sandstone dressings. It has a base course and overhanging timber bracketed eaves. The corners are accentuated with droved quoins, and the round-arched openings have long and short surrounds, along with projecting cills.

On the southwest (front) elevation, there is a narrow window in the piended porch that projects at the center, with single windows recessed in the bays to the left and right. The northwest (side) elevation features a timber panelled door in the porch, recessed to the outer right, and a piended block that advances to the left with a projecting bipartite window at the center. There is also a narrow window recessed to the left in the subsequent bay, and a flat-roofed addition to the outer left.

The northeast (rear) elevation has an irregular arrangement of windows with a flat-roofed addition at the center, while the principal block is set behind. The southeast (side) elevation includes a narrow window in the porch, recessed to the outer left, and a piended block that advances to the right with a projecting bipartite window at the center. There is a single window recessed to the right in the subsequent bay, and a blocked window in the flat-roofed addition to the outer right.

The windows feature 10- and 2-pane glazing in timber sash and case style, with modern windows at the rear. The roof is covered with grey slate and has a brick-built ridge stack with paired, corniced flues and circular cans.

The interior was not seen in 1999. The site is partially enclosed by a rubble-coped boundary wall, which is incorporated within the core policy boundary wall.
