Dean's Lamp, Academy Square, Montrose

Dean's Lamp, located in Academy Square, Montrose, was constructed in 1881. It features an ornate cast-iron lamp standard and a drinking fountain set on a square plinth. The base has semicircular basins that project from each face, which are scroll-embossed. Above this, there is a tapering section adorned with lion mask water spouts, although one is missing. The base of the column is decorated with cherub heads, while the base of the shaft is embellished with rams' heads. The column itself is fluted and has an anthemion neck band. It also includes a pair of decorated scroll bracket arms and a glazed lantern topped with a finial.
