Description
The Robert Burns Statue, located in Academy Square, Montrose, was created by William Birnie Rhind around 1882. This pedestrian statue is made of stone and stands on a large moulded ashlar base, which features corner nook shafts and figurative bas-reliefs in roll-moulded panels on each side. The cornice is adorned with carved foliage, and there is a battered coping at the top. The figure of Burns is depicted leaning against a tree stump while cradling a book in his hand.
