Description
1 Esk Road in Montrose is an early 19th-century house, possibly incorporating some earlier materials. It is a two-storey, three-bay, double bow fronted structure that is harled and painted with plain margins.
The west elevation features two shallowly bowed bays at the center, each containing a window on both the ground and first floors. To the left, there is a single bay that appears to be a later addition for a stair tower, which is set back and has a window at the ground floor. The outer right side has a blank end of a lean-to that is partly tile hung.
On the east elevation, there is a bay to the right with a door at the ground level accessed by descending steps, and a small window above it on the first floor. The center and left sections correspond with the bowed bays on the west elevation, but timber sheds have been built over the ground floor openings. There is a single window in a lean-to on the outer left.
The south elevation shows an advanced lean-to with a blank wall of the house above and to the left. The north elevation has a single bay section with a window located between the ground and first floors.
The windows are four-pane timber sash and case types. The roof is a grey slate piended style with a cat-slide on the north side, and there is a broad, harled brick ridge stack at the center.
The interior was not seen in 1997.
