Description
3, 5, 7 John Street in Montrose is a 2-storey, 2-bay house built around 1820, which includes a shop on the ground floor. It is part of a terrace of four houses and features a painted lined render exterior.
The south elevation, which is the principal front, has a later 19th century shopfront on the ground floor. This shopfront is divided into five parts with symmetrical architraved margins. The central doorway has been blocked, and there is a rectangular fanlight above it. The flanking windows have been converted into doorways, while the outer large windows are fitted with plate glass. On the first floor, there are two small widely spaced windows with plain margins, and an additional doorway to the right at ground level, also with a rectangular fanlight.
The west elevation adjoins 29 High Street, and the east elevation adjoins 9 John Street. The first floor features timber sash and case windows, and the roof is covered with grey slate.
The interior includes a shop on the ground floor, but the first floor was not seen during the last inspection in 1997.
