Description
The Old Smithy on Braehead Road in Glamis dates from the late 18th to early 19th century. This single-storey building features three bays and a piend roof, and it is constructed from coursed, snecked rubble with droved margins. The stone mullions add to its character.
The northeast elevation, which serves as the entrance, is symmetrical and includes a broad two-leaf boarded timber door at the center, flanked by bipartite windows on either side.
On the southeast elevation, the piended roof has a bipartite window at the center, with a lower bay extending under a catslide roof to the outer left. The building has small-pane glazing in fixed timber windows and is topped with a corrugated-iron roof. Coped ashlar stacks with thackstanes complete the structure.
