Description

5 Old Pier is an 18th century house that has seen later additions and alterations. It is a two-storey, four-bay building arranged in an L-plan with a piend roof, featuring two stone forestairs, and is part of an irregular terrace overlooking the harbour. The house is constructed from large coursed and squared sandstone rubble blocks, with harling on the sides and random rubble at the rear. The doors are made of vertically-boarded timber.

On the south (principal) elevation, there is a single window on each floor at the outer left. A forestair, which includes a later porch, has ashlar steps and modern metal railings that lead up from the left to a first-floor door located in the bay to the left of center. There is an additional window on each floor in the bay immediately to the right. The outer right bay features a modern vehicular gate beneath a saddleback ashlar lintel, with a single window offset to the right above it. The right side has boulder pall-stone and a canted angle mitred to square.

The east elevation is harled and has a forestair rising from the right of center to the outer right first-floor window, which has been converted from a door.

On the north (rear) elevation, the ground floor is obscured by an ancillary building, while the first floor has two windows and a piended projection at the outer right that includes a door and two windows above.

The windows are replacement timber sash and case with a 4-pane glazing pattern. The roof is covered with grey slates and features small modern rooflights. Coped ashlar ridge stacks with cans complete the roofline.
