Description
This building at 82 High Street in Stonehaven is a tall, two-storey house with an attic, constructed in the later 19th century and altered over time. It features four bays above ground, with the ground floor having been converted from shops. The lower part of the building has a single bay that closes irregularly at the east and was formerly part of a terrace to the west. The exterior is made of squared, coursed rubble with stugged ashlar dressings and projecting cills, while the sides are finished with snecked rubble. There is a lintel band on the first floor.
On the south elevation, the central bay at ground level has a timber door with a plate glass fanlight, flanked by blocked shop doorways and outer bipartite windows that have recessed mullions, altered from their original shop window design. The first floor has regular fenestration, with weathered lettering 'DT' between the first and second bays, and 'MP' between the third and fourth bays. Above, there are two slate-hung, polygonal-roofed, canted dormer windows. The lower bay on the outer right has a single window on each floor, with the first-floor window breaking the eaves into a swept dormer head.
The windows are timber sash and case with 4-pane and plate glass glazing patterns. The roof is covered with grey slates, and there are broad coped gablehead stacks with a full complement of polygonal cans. The skews are ashlar-coped with block skewputts.
