Ship Inn, 5 Shorehead, Stonehaven

The Ship Inn, located at 5 Shorehead in Stonehaven, is a mid 19th century terraced hotel that likely incorporates elements from 1771. It is a three-storey, four-bay building with a rectangular plan and features a crowstepped nepus gable. The exterior is made of whitewashed coursed rubble, accented by polished ashlar margins, particularly at the ground floor where they have pedimented heads.

On the principal elevation, the central bay at ground level has a two-leaf vertically-boarded timber door with decorative metal hinges and a plate glass letterbox fanlight. To the left of the door is a single window, while the outer bays contain bipartite windows. The upper floors have regular fenestration, with the windows on the second floor in the center breaking the eaves into the nepus gable, and those in the outer bays breaking the eaves into piended dormerheads.

The interior of the building is modern. There is late 20th century glazing that is out of character with the building. The roof is covered with graded grey slates, and features include a coped ashlar gablehead and wallhead stacks with cans, along with ashlar-coped skews and beak skewputts at the nepus gable.
