Description
24 High Street in Banff is a building dating from around 1925. It is a three-storey, three-bay symmetrical block with a slightly set-back two-storey, single-bay entrance wing at the south return gable. The exterior is made of coursed bull-faced rubble, featuring extensive tooled ashlar dressings and margins, while the return gables and rear are harled. The entrance has a recessed centre door flanked by enlarged shop windows, and there is a long, narrow stair window in the centre, with bipartite windows in the outer bays on both floors. A moulded cornice runs between the ground and first floors, as well as at the wallhead below the blocking course. The set-back entrance wing, known as Oakbank, includes a doorway and a window above it.
The building has varied fenestration in the return gables and at the rear, which includes a canted oriel window at the back of Oakbank. The windows feature plate glass glazing, and there are corniced wallhead stacks. The roof is a piended slate design.
