Bellevue House, Bellevue Road, Banff

Bellevue House, built around 1830, is a two-storey, three-bay villa situated over a raised basement in Banff. The exterior features harled walls with painted ashlar margins and dressings. The symmetrical front has a central entrance flanked by windows set in shallow round-headed recesses. A cast-iron lattice decked terrace, approached by a flight of steps that oversails the raised basement, enhances the entrance. The steps and terrace boast a fine original decorative cast-iron balustrade. The entrance includes a fine original panelled door with decorative beaded detailing and a decoratively glazed rectangular fanlight. The villa has long flanking windows and shorter windows for the raised basement and first floor, with one blind window in the south return gable. The timber sash and case windows feature 9 and 12 panes. The roof is piended slate with deep soffits, and there are tooled granite wallhead stacks. A later lean-to glazed conservatory is attached to the south return gable.

Inside, the drawing room to the right of the hall has deep moulded skirting boards, a ceiling frieze, and a later painted wood chimneypiece. The dining room features a renewed modern chimneypiece and a mural dado rail.

The property includes gatepiers made of tooled ashlar with flat copes, along with a pair of original decorative cast-iron spearhead gates topped with urn finials. The garden walls are made of rubble and heightened with brick, with sections harled where they face Sandyhill Road.
