Description
Forglen War Memorial, dated 1921 and possibly designed by W L Duncan of Turriff, is a single-storey and basement hall with a piended roof, raised over the basement, and roughly T-shaped with service wings at the rear. The exterior is harled, featuring Turriff sandstone cills, ashlar coping, and an eaves course.
On the northeast elevation, there is a flat-roofed entrance porch at the rear of the lower wing, located in the northeast re-entrant angle. This porch has a deep-set door, two windows to the right, and a bipartite window to the left, with a battlemented parapet above. The main hall block is advanced to the right and features a tripartite design, with the center light breaking the eaves in a shaped gablehead that displays a date plaque.
The west elevation includes three broad windows and a small door to the basement at the outer left. The lower, gabled service wings are attached at the rear.
The building has sash and case windows, as well as metal-framed hopper windows with a multi-pane glazing pattern. The roof is covered with grey slates and has swept eaves. A leaded bellcote is positioned at the center ridge, featuring an apron, an arcaded cote, and a pyramidal roof with a finial. There is also a rendered ridge stack at the rear.
The 1914-18 War Memorial is located to the north and consists of a polished granite pier with steps, a dated wreath, an inscription, and a pyramidal cap.
