38-40 Allardice Street, Stonehaven

38-40 Allardice Street in Stonehaven is a three-storey and attic flatted dwelling with a shop on the ground floor, dating from around 1900. It is part of an irregular terrace and is constructed from red sandstone ashlar. The building features a full-width bracketed shop cornice, with architraved and corniced windows above the ground floor, and a segmental-headed attic window.

On the principal elevation, there is a traditional centre door shop front, along with a further panelled timber door and plate glass fanlight to the outer right. To the right at the first floor, there is a canted oriel window, while a single window is located to the left. The second floor has a broad tripartite window, and there is a tiny ogee-headed attic window set in the gablehead.

The windows are fitted with plate glass glazing in replacement timber sash and case frames, and the attic window has a small pane glazing pattern. The roof is covered with grey slates, and there is a shared cavetto-coped ashlar stack with polygonal cans, ashlar-coped skews, cast-iron downpipes, and decorative rainwater hoppers featuring lion masks.

Inside, the ground floor entrance hall of No 38 includes a fine tiled dado.
