Description

Coull Parish Church Manse is a former manse built in 1832. It is a two-storey, three-bay building with a rectangular plan and a gabled roof. The exterior is harled with squared and tooled granite, featuring a base course, eaves course, plain quoins, and margins around the openings. The windows are arranged in a regular pattern.

On the west (principal) elevation, the manse has two storeys and three bays with regular fenestration, including a letterbox fanlight above the timber panelled door. The east (rear) elevation features a two-storey, advanced semicircular stair turret with a piended roof that breaks the eaves at the center, flanked by small dormers with piended roofs. To the right, there is a single-storey, three-bay addition that is harled and slated, with a gabled roof and a tall chimney stack at the end gable.

The north (side) elevation has a gable end with windows in the outer bays of the ground floor, while the south (side) elevation is a blank gable end.

Inside, the manse has a typical symmetrical layout with reception rooms on either side of the entrance hall and lobby, which features an elegant turned stone staircase at the rear. The hall and lobby have flagged floors, and there are fine quality timber skirting, door and window frames, and panelled doors. The principal rooms have plain cornice plasterwork.

The windows are 12-pane, timber-framed, sash and case types. The roof is covered with grey slates and has lead flashing, with coped skews and chimney stacks on the gable ends.

Additionally, there is a rectangular walled garden located to the rear and side of the house. This garden is enclosed by a high, coped rubble wall that includes a rectangular stone-lined bee bole on the north side.
