Description

Glenapp Manse is a former manse built in 1850, featuring a two-storey, three-bay, L-plan design with a gabled central entrance bay that is slightly advanced and includes a kneeler and finial. There is a single-storey wing at the rear. The building is constructed of whitewashed random rubble with ashlar dressings, and it has quoin strips. The front elevation has regular fenestration with raised window margins and projecting cills. The entrance features a corniced architrave with inset pilasters flanking a deeply recessed timber-panelled front door with a fanlight above, and there is a raised blank cartouche in the porch gable. The rear elevation is irregularly fenestrated, with the wing extending from the left, also featuring a finialled gable and kneelered skew.

The windows predominantly have 12-pane glazing in timber sash and case style. The building has ashlar-coped skews and limewashed, squared stone stacks topped with an ashlar cornice and margins, along with tall octagonal buff clay cans. The rainwater goods are made of cast iron.

Inside, there is a small porch that leads to a central hallway, which features a nosed stone stairway with decorative cast-iron balusters and a polished wooden handrail. The interior includes timber-panelled doors, timber window surrounds, working timber shutters, presses, and simple cornicing throughout.

Adjacent to the manse is an L-plan steading to the east, which includes a two-storey northern range and a single-storey eastern range. There is a central projecting gabled outshot with a side door. This steading is also built of random rubble with ashlar-coped skews and a grey slate stone-ridged roof, featuring irregular fenestration. The northern range includes vehicle entrances and a hayloft, along with some timber-boarded doors.
