Description
55 and 57 Low Street in Banff is a mid to later 19th century, two-storey and attic building that features a five-bay design, serving as both a house and a shop. The front is made of squared, tooled granite with harled return gables and a harled rear.
The central entrance has a wide corniced doorpiece with roll-moulded jambs, which leads to the shop. The flanking windows have been enlarged, and there is a small window in the outer bay on the west side, which was formerly a doorway. On the east side, there is a doorway with a glazed fanlight. The first floor has three regularly spaced windows, each with 12-pane timber sash and case glazing, and there is a single later pedimented dormer above.
The building features a deep moulded wallhead cornice, flat skews, and moulded copes on the end stacks, all topped with a slate roof.
