Description

The Biggar Memorial Drinking Fountain, located on Low Street in Banff, was designed by John Rhind in 1878. This ornate late Gothic drinking fountain features a crown head and is constructed from polished and tooled ashlar. The design includes a crocketted corona that is supported by squat cluster columns, which are connected at the four corners to stumpy facetted columns that previously supported pinnacles. These columns are linked by short flying buttresses and are all assembled on a square base with cluster column angles and inscribed plaques. The fountain stands on a shallow stepped base.
